I dont have any mods or anything installed...tried running as admin and it compatibility mode but still nothing. Anyone know why this is happening?

It also happens with FFXI too...but I think thats because i installed it wrong.

Ty for trying to help Cheesy

I deleted my oblivion.ini and it worked...i guess since i took the startup movie out it didnt want to load :/

Anyways i think im goin back to XP...Vista is nice and all...but i cant get FFXI to work, and it just takes up so much room on a 70GB hard drive...ive only installed oblivion and FFXI and have 32.7GB free. Although i havn't deleted the iso's for oblivion GoTY yet. I'm just not ready for such a big change in OS yet i like XP...maybe when i get dual core and some more RAM.

Oblivion did run faster than it did on XP...but it might have been because my XP was bloaded w/ all those AIDS and fragmented to hell too lol.

It wasn't a problem with Vista...it was my fault for messing with the .ini before i even launched the game >.< Tried to take the movie and logos or w/e out so it would load faster.

My last PC had vista and it made the game stutter a LOT (no optimization mod would do anything at all) and take forever to load.

2 GB of ddr 800 RAM helped noticably though.

When ever someone experiences performance loss on Vista, they instantly say Vista is slow.
One reason could be do to a compatbility issues, which can obviously kill performance. Tweaking with the TGTC gains performance, and it is necessary to get the maximum effect on Windows. Unoptimized video card & sound card drivers will cause issues too

Have you tried running in XP compatibility mode? You also need to Run as Administrator to get the maximum performance.

Sadly to say, it may need a reinstall, but you don't have the disk.

I don't have it anymore, but I can definitely say it's buggier and slower than XP. I use Vista everyday for FTP purposes and it SUCKS. Programs constantly crash and stop responding.

It doesn't help that I use a laptop for that but still. The only thing I find faster about it is browsing through files (a benefit of the updated memory cacheing that everyone complains of..?)

Perhaps you just don't know how to use it well Wink I'm not trying to be rude, but a lot of people blame all of there pc issues on Vista because it's easy to do, and most of the time the problem ends up being user error. I've been using Vista since RC1 with no compatibility issues, other than videodrivers not supporting OpenGL during the pre-release versions of vista. Which would be the card manufacturers fault, not Vista's.

I haven't always had the beefy system I have now either. When I first started using vista, I had a 2.53Ghz P4, 1Gb ddr333 ram, and an FX5500 (after upgrading from a Ti4600). So I know the problems aren't because of slower hardware. It is possible that the problems you're having are based around the OS, but I've found that 90% of the time people just don't know what they're doing, and they blame things on Vista.

Well another thing to blame was that my computer was manufactured by Dell.

But really, I don't see how other people can use vista without problems. I tried a lot to configure it to be more useful and well , it wasn't.
SO, I'm still using XP until it becomes necessary to use .. I also still have the restore disk from my old computer, so I will not have to waste money buying it Tongue

edit: ah, here are my old screenshots, taken within the same 5 seconds.

pathetic... Vista giving me almost no CPU time, cacheing all of my RAM, eating the rest that isn't cached, and not running any performance-heavy programs.

Are you kidding me?

If it is using your CPU, it is using your CPU to handle processes for maximum performance. You will notice third party programs will use less CPU & RAM on Vista than XP. High RAM usage is do to the Superfetch and memory management, which is what makes Vista perform superior to XP. It is not a resource hog, it is not using your ram without a purpose. You should also turn on Aero with that 8600GT laptop, which will make Firefox instant start up always. Aero actually makes Windows faster, but not in games. That's why you do check Disable Desktop Composition & Visual Themes on the game shortcut.

19% CPU is by no means not a lot, and to be honest, I have NEVER had Vista use 19% CPU usage EVER. You obviously had a lot of stuff open, as I could tell, Paintshop was using a good 50mb of ram.
Again, it is not a resource hog, it is actually using what you have. Unused RAM is wasted RAM, why do you have RAM  if it is not being used?

It's really not using that much, and a lot of those processes can be shut off if you go to start games. Just set disable desktop composition and visual themes. I haven't even really messed with mine much, other than turning off some start-up programs. I think you're just not used to Vista yet.
