Here is FO3 on a laptop with AMD 3200, 512MB system ram and a ATI Mobility 9600 with 64MB.
I haven't tried SP7, but I use the no heads and decals, and force to 640x480.

Have you disabled all smoke, fog, HDR/Bloom and Partical effects in the games .ini file? - Those are the real big performance killers on the x3100 chips.
I dsabled those options through the launcher, not entirely sure where I might find them in the .ini. The bloom/HDR lighting, at least. Some of the particle effects could be toned down if I really wanted to, but again, I'm not too sure where to find them, and Ctrl-F doesn't work for them.

I've been tweaking around with the FALLOUT.INI file. This is done after using shaderpackage7 to 8 fix and disabling decals. I tested these out separately and heres what I've learned so far:
bDoSpecularPass=0 -removed character texture flickering(especially the player's gun) by disabling the ingame shiny effects(bottles, walls, clothes etc) but causes interior wall texture errors(textures are either replaced by flat brown color or metallic white-ish texture).
bDoDiffusePass=0 -also removes flickering. Plus specular/shiny works well but all textures look very dark and water has turned invisible. I think this disables the lighting entirely. Flashlight doesn't seem to work either.
In the end, I decided not to use these settings for playing but instead used them as clues. I guess lighting is the primary suspect thats causing the flickers. I have no idea how to tweak the settings for that just yet so I decided to share this info to the board.

Hi, I've been following the forum ( I use Oldblivion as well) for quite some time, i kinda guessed since Betheseda made FO3 there would be a thread on something like it for FallOut. I read that it should run on an FX5200, but i did some tweaking, including the AmbientPass, DiffusePass, Disabling the heads, etc. etc. But i've gotten the game to run with high textures (everything else lowest) smoothly, about 20+ FPS. But i have a problem, about 10 or so seconds into the game (I'm a baby, just out of the playpen and read the Your Are Special book) It just crashes to my desktop, Ive tried more tweaking, but nothing works. I use a renamed shaderpack007 to 005, as nothing else works. Does anyone else have this problem or a solution? I'll upload my FallOut.Ini.
Thanks in advanced.

I am using an Intel 965 chipset with a Pentium T2390 (dual core but NOT a core duo) and 2 gigs of ram on XP sp2
I am still (after following the advice of this forum) having NEW GAME/ LOAD GAME crashes....
I just finished putting the downloaded 'shaderpackage008' file in my shaders dir and also very carefully replaced all the values for decals and usefacegen
I even used several save games files with no success. (Fallout runs on my SLOWER hp dv2000 with Go6150 graphics and a turion 64x2 1.8ghz but of course it gets like 7-9FPS and isn't really playable)
Regardless of the save game or the new game attempts I always get the same error message: btw I'm using Russian windows because I am studying in Russia and it helps my language skills and I forget the exact wording of the english version of the error so....basically it says: instruction at address 0x00625070 refering to memory at address 0x00000000 - this memory couldn't be read
The values are always the same regardless of new game or different save games (I don't know if that is significant) And also there is so much information in the debug text that if someone wants me to send it over just say - or tell me what info would be helpful because I have no idea.
Also - the Russian operation system is not a problem - both laptops have Russian xp and it runs on my nvidia notebook
Help!

Made progress, I've pinpointed where my game crashes, it is when your dad kneels down as says
See this? It was your mothers favorite passage, from the bible -
Then it crashes.
Thanks.

Hi there, @ calderes First of all you should look at your RendererInfo.txt ( in your mydocuments/mygames/fallout3 folder ) Theres a "shader package" line. If the line ends with an 8 you have to use shaderpackage008 but if its 1 you have to i.e. copy Shaderpackage007 and rename it to 001, that should help. If you still have problems please look up this guide of monsterkatt: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=904034there if everything mentioned as far as we've got. I hope this will help you. @ xxinferno Up until now we haven't managed to get around the 1year bug, we don't know why it crashes but you can download savegames of all 'tutorial' steps. Before leaving the Vault 101 you'll be able to reconfigure/redo your character. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ETMR4Y25Edit: It would be very helpfull if someone could explain the main idea about fomm and the shadertuning, i would really like to give it a shot but i really don't know what to do. Have fun!

Not pretty at all. In that shot it was 12. Surprising enough it didn't drop below 9 just looking around outside but I imagine add some actors and effects it will become a slideshow. I was just surprised it ran at all considering how below minimium req my laptop is.especially the 64mb vid ram let alone the 512mb sytem.

So what does THAT mean?! =) *edit - BTW I already have shader package 002 (that's why it is so perplexing) *edit - Tried copying 007 and renaming to 001 just in case =) no luck

I crash to destop as soon as I get hit by anything. I have disabled the 'gethit blur shader' probably my specs but SP7 fixes the graphic errors, good find. I going to find out why the Heads crash, maybe 2.0b hair or something? I need more time in my life.

The gethit blur shader should work fine as it is on 9x00 cards. Have you disabled decals? http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=904034&view=findpost&p=13158538probably my specs but SP7 fixes the graphic errors, good find. Either way, Clavitus is working on his customized shaderpackage with quite some amount of success. Version 1 is up, and he's working on version 2.
